Ay, France

deutz-racks Since 1838 Deutz has been based in the Grand Cru village of Ay, just west of Epernay. By the late 19th Century Deutz became a much sought after Champagne consumed by many heads of state and royalty. In 1983 the Rouzaud family, owners of Louis Roederer, purchased Deutz and installed the talented Fabrice Rosset as the CEO. The Deutz style continues to be understated, refined, and made to exacting standards. In addition to their property in Ay, Deutz has acquired vineyards in the Cotes des Blanc and have secured long term contracts with their grower partners, all of which practice sustainable vineyard management. Mr Rosset was responsible for engineering the success of Roederer’s premium cuvee Crystal, and has introduced his own line of prestige cuvees, Amour de Deutz. Under the leadership of Mr Rosset, Deutz is again a much sought after brand with significant market presence in Europe and the US. Winery Website

The 2009 opens pretty aromatic on the clear, pure and delicate nose, where pineapple aromas are displayed and intermixed with chalky flavors. Pure, complex and finesse-full on the palate, this is a very delicate, light and elegant cuvée with a good intensity of sweet cherry fruit and mineral flavors. This is well structured and persistent in the finish.

deutz-amour-roseAmour de Deutz Rosé Brut Millésimé
Dressed in a beautifully bright and brillant salmon rosé color and further characterized by a creamy effervescence creating an extremely noble bead chain, a ridiculously pure, subtle, refined and delicate aroma of red currant, white nectarines, coconut milk, wild flowers (alpine rose) and berries as well as densely woven minerals is revealed on the nose. On the palate this light-hearted yet full-flavored and persistent prestige Champagne reveals a delicate, fresh, racy, tightly yet stimulating mineral character, which is generous enough to admit refined, bright, red fruit flavors.
